I think there were more than a few witches , heretics , and a whole slew of people that just didn't believe as Christians do, that were destroyed as individuals through Christian belief, alone. We even hung a few in this country, before separation of church and state, including different sects that had the misfortune to wander into another sect's territory. Congregationalists, for example, hung Quakers if they were unlucky, merely cut their tongue out, if they weren't. I think you're dreaming if you think that religion increases peace, and you would have to look no farther than the historic and modern conflict between Islam and the Christian religion to find easy evidence of that. The morality that religions use as the carrot to their stick of dogma and obedience increases peace, but religion isn't necessary to, or the originators of, that morality.
